It has now been thirteen years since we left the midwest and moved to North Florida, which is more like Georgia than Florida.  I have not yet developed a taste for grits.  I have learned to run in a zig-zag pattern to avoid pursuing alligators and I know where to find the nearest ER that stocks snake anti-venin.  I still play tennis but have misplaced my RI letter sweater.  My wife and I are now empty-nestors for the last year, but between phone calls, e-mails and assorted requests for financial support, the burden of parenthood has not appreciably lessened.

My work at the Mayo Clinic continues to go well.  As of this year, I assumed the duties as Chair of the Division of Pulmonary Medicine - a job that no one else in my division really wanted.  I am trying not to fulfill the Peter Principle.

To my classmates scattered throughout the country, I would love to see any of you who find your way to Jacksonville Florida.  Keep in mind that we (the city, not me) will be hosting the Super Bowl in 2005.   [Aug2001]

Enjoying retirement, our kids and grandkids. Keeping busy seeing the country in our travel trailer. Building habitat homes with RV Car-A-Vaners. Just celebrated our 48th anniversary. Life is Good. [July2016]

We love being retired.  Never had so much fun!  [April 2011]

I have worked for the Post Office for 41 years and retired in 2009.  Retirement is a good thing.  My daughter helps keep me busy as we are involved with the Extreme and Moline Clean Ups every year.  I work in my garden.  I try to stay politically involved.  You can see me every Saturday from 11am until noon on the corner of 16th Street and John Deere Road.  I like to spend time with my family.  [July2011]

We've both been retired for quite a while now -- Linda from the Champaign public schools, Grear from the University of Illinois. Health is good, allowing us to enjoy traveling, bicycling, and hiking. Our daughter Julie lives in the Philadelphia area with her husband Grant Alger and our granddaughter Clara. Life is good for the Kimmels.  [July2016]

Life is good for the the Kimmels.  2011 has been a busy year filled with mostly good opportunities that come to the fortunate.  We're both retired.  Grear left his University of Illinois communications job in 2005 and never looked back.  (I seem perfectly suited to retirement--seem to possess the right skill set.)  Linda left teaching in 2004, but retirement was a process for her.  She retired, went back as a substitute, then taught half-time for a couple of years before finally 'accomplishing' retirement.  We like Champaign and find plenty to do here.  We are active in community life and enjoy the cultural and educational opportunities one finds in a university town.  But we find ourselves away from home more and more lately.  Our recent travel has been mostly domestic.  We particularly like active get-aways: bicycle trips and hiking expeditions are among our favorites.  We are frequent visitors to the Philadelphia, PA area, home of our only daughter, her husband, and our granddaughter--a beautiful 7-year-old genius.  Linda's mother passed away in January of this year.  Many of our classmates will remember Louise Schultz as their Home Ec teacher at Washington Junior High School.  Her Dad, Chet Schultz, driver education teacher at Rocky when we were all there, lives at Friendship Manor in Rock Island.  So all is as it should be.  We are lucky to have good health and good things to do.  Best wishes to all our Rock Classmates!  [July2011]

I was blessed to have a great grandson from my granddaughter (the Oldest). Her mother blessed up with another granddaughter 8 months later. Aunt Falyn and nephew Samir are loving each other and will forever be best friends.  [July2016]

We have been blessed with 10 beautiful grandchildren (6 boys, 4 girls) and a beautiful, courageous little great-granddaughter, born at 25 wks at 1 lb 13 oz, 13 1/2".  She now weighs 4 lbs 1 oz and may go home next week.  For medical reasons, I had to retire in 2009.  Ted still works 2 days a week for the casino.  [May2011]

I'm still in Rock Island, enjoying my grandchildren and hoping I can make ten more years to retirement age!  I see very few people from our class, though I know many still live in the area.  Where are y'all at!!!!  I would love to hear from somebody. My husband, Ted, and I work as dealers at the Casino Rock Island.  I really enjoy the work and most of the "guests."  However, I would never have dreamed of having such a job.  Where did this come from?  [Feb2004]
