Cheryl Whitney Koutsky

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan.  Burial is at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island.  Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the Cheryl Koutsky Memorial at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School, Milan.

Cheryl Lynn Whitney was born July 27, 1948, in Rock Island, a daughter of Roy and Phyllis Langenbacher Whitney.  She married John Koutsky on June 29, 1968, in Moline.

Cheryl graduated from Rock Island High School and Western Illinois University, from where she received a degree in education.  She volunteered for many years at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School, Milan and was previously employed as the school's librarian and currently as a teacher's aid.

She was a member of the Milan-Blackhawk Area Public Library District Board and the Thomas Jefferson Booster Club.  Cheryl loved her family, especially her grandchildren, who she spent a lot of time with.  She enjoyed bird watching, classic car shows and reading, of which she was a great promoter and advocate.

Survivors include her husband, John; son, David (Kris), Milan; grandchildren, Joshua, Brittany, Allysa, Austin, Aaron and Tyler; sister, Jody (Ed) Henrikowski, Westland, Mich.; and mother-in-law, Jeanne Koutsky, Rock Island. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, David Kuebler.
