Craig Short

Craig William Short, 66, of Rock Island, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at UnitPoint Health-Trinity Rock Island.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island.  Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.  Interment will take place at a later date at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island.  Memorials may be made to the family.

Craig was born Dec. 28, 1947, in Moline, son of Orville and Virginia Duncan Short.  He graduated from Rock Island High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War on the USS Oglethorpe.  After his return from the service, Craig worked as a truck driver for more than 40 years.

He was a life member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  Craig enjoyed music, especially swing era jazz and blues, and was an avid Bears fan.

Survivors (and spouses) include sons, David (Lisa) Short, Rock Island, and Christopher (Andrea) Short, John's Island, S.C.; granddaughters, Brittney, Emily, Molly, Saylor and Brooklyn; a sister, Mary Goding, Rock Island; brothers, Damon (Kathy) Short, Chicago, and Brian (Nancy) Short, Rock Island; and many nieces and nephews.  Mr. Short was preceded in death by his parents.
