David Ranson, 21, Killed in Vietnam

Cpl. David William Ranson, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Seymour D. Ranson, 4563 12th Ave., Rock Island, was reported killed in action yesterday in the Oklahoma Hill siege in Vietnam, where he was stationed with Fox Co. 2-7 (Rockets), Marine Corps.

Cpl. Ranson had only a month-and-a-half to go before ending a 13-month tour of duty.

The Ransons were notified this morning of their son's death by an officer of the Marine Corps.

In addition to his parents, the young Marine is survived by three brothers, Lee of Peoria, Richard L., East Moline, and Daniel D., who left March 27 for San Diego, Calif., where he is undergoing basic training in the Marine Corps; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Myrtle Lane, Moline, and his paternal grandfather, William Ranson, Chicago.

Services for Marine Cpl. David William Ranson, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. D. Ranson of 2209 38th St., Rock Island, will be at 3 Friday afternoon in First Congregational Church of Christ, Moline, with Rev. Robert M. Birdsell of Plymouth-Gordon United Church of Christ, Moline, officiating.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon tomorrow until noon Friday in Esterdahl Mortuary.

Cpl Ranson was killed during the Oklahoma Hill operation in Vienam April 7.
