Melvin Matherly Jr

Melvin D. "Bud" Matherly Jr., 68, of Coal Valley, died Thursday, April 14, 2016, at UnityPoint Health-Trinity Rock Island.

Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bethel Assembly of God, Rock Island, with the Rev. Dan Qualls officiating.  Burial is at Rock Island National Cemetery.  Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley.  Memorials may be made to the family.

Bud was born Jan. 15, 1948, in Davenport, to Melvin Dale Sr. and Eva Rae Grams Matherly.  He married Emma Lee Woods on July 8, 1968, in Rock Island.

He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, owned Matherly Flowers and Gifts in Coal Valley and sold antiques and did furniture restoring.  He loved his Lord, his family was his life, and he enjoyed woodworking, bicycling, yardwork, flowers and nature.

Bud is survived by his wife, Lee; children, Jessica Brown and her husband Dustin, Jeremiah Matherly and Jason Matherly; granddaughters, Bailey, Heidi and Cassandra Brown; his mother, Eva Rae Matherly; and sisters, Sheri Williams, Barbara Schmidt, and Beverly Coolidge and her husband Bill.  He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Susan Peterson.
